Resources and News:

Let’s be honest—tax season has long been a chaotic mix of crumpled receipts, sleepless nights, and hoping you didn’t overlook some obscure deduction. But those days are fading fast. With the rise of AI, tax preparation is no longer just manageable—it’s becoming a real competitive advantage. What was once a stressful yearly scramble is now evolving into a streamlined, strategic, year-round process. READ MORE

Ever noticed how you find local businesses these days?

I bet you're reaching for your phone rather than flipping through that dusty yellow pages book.

I've been helping small businesses with their online presence for years, and trust me, the online world has completely transformed how local shops connect with customers.

Make Your Website Work Harder for You

Your website is basically your 24/7 storefront. I remember visiting a local bakery's site last month that was so confusing I couldn't even find their hours.

Don't make that mistake.

Keep it simple with your contact info front and center, clear business hours (can't tell you how many times I've been frustrated by this!), and a straightforward explanation of what you actually do.

And please, make sure it looks good on phones—we're all scrolling while waiting in line these days.

Get Found in Local Searches

When I search for "coffee shops near me," I want to see your cafe pop up.

Claim your Google Business Profile—it's free and incredibly effective. Then ask happy customers for reviews. We all check these before visiting somewhere new, right?

Use location-specific keywords in your content, too. Think phrases like "best pizza in Oakville" rather than just "pizza restaurant."

Share Stuff People Actually Care About

Nobody wants to read boring promotional content. Instead, share things your community will value.

The florist down my street posts seasonal arrangement tips that I love checking out, even when I'm not buying flowers.

Try creating helpful guides, behind-the-scenes peeks at your business, or spotlighting your amazing customers. This content builds connection, not just sales.

Be Real on Social Media

You don't need to be on every platform—that's exhausting.

Pick one or two where your customers hang out and be consistent. I've seen a local hardware store absolutely crush it on Instagram with simple, useful home improvement tips.

The owner responds personally to comments, and that human touch makes all the difference. Nothing builds loyalty like feeling heard.

Stay in Touch With Email

I look forward to my favorite bookstore's monthly newsletter because they share personalized recommendations based on what I've bought before.

Your emails should feel like getting a note from a friend who knows what you like. Keep them brief, friendly, and focused on what's valuable to the reader, not just what you want to sell.

Team Up With Local Influencers

That food blogger in your town with 5,000 devoted followers?

They might be the perfect partner.

I've watched small cafés transform their business after a single post from a local influencer who genuinely loves their products. Look for people who align with your values, not just whoever has the most followers.

Create Irresistible Online Offers

Who doesn't love feeling like they scored a deal? Maybe it's a first-time customer discount or a loyalty program that makes me feel special.

My local coffee shop sends a digital punch card that gives me a free drink after ten purchases, and you better believe I keep going back.

Keep an Eye on What's Working

I used to pour money into Facebook ads until I checked my analytics and realized Instagram was actually bringing in more customers for half the cost.

Always pay attention to what's actually working for your specific business, not what everyone says you "should" be doing.

What's been your biggest challenge with marketing your business online?

The online world keeps changing, but with some authentic effort and these straightforward strategies, your local business can definitely stand out online.
